Crafting a Healthy Breakfast Bowl with Nuts and Dried Fruits
Choosing a healthy breakfast can aid weight loss, balance your energy levels, and prevent mid-morning snacking. No more rumbling stomachs!
We’re told breakfast is the most important meal of the day – that it sets us up for everything to come. And yet, all too often, we rely on sugary breakfast cereals, croissants, and Danish pastries. Even a slice of toast isn’t enough.
Below, we explain how to create a breakfast bowl brimming with nuts and dried fruits – alongside a few other delicious accompaniments. Let’s get started!
Crafting a Healthy Breakfast Bowl
Kickstart your day with a healthy, nutritious breakfast that will deliver energy long after morning. It’s not just about filling your stomach but fuelling your body with the right ingredients. But that doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice taste – a few natural sweet ingredients can create a delicious weight-loss breakfast.
Choosing Your Base
A good base for your healthy breakfast could involve:
- Whole Grains: Opt for whole grains like oats as the base. These are rich in fibre and provide a slow release of energy, keeping you full for longer.
- Greek Yoghurt: For a protein-packed start, use Greek yoghurt. It’s also loaded with probiotics for good digestive health.
Recipe Idea: Rather than going for the standard porridge, combine Greek yoghurt, oats, and milk the night before to make overnight oats. The oats soak up the liquid, creating a creamy base for your healthy breakfast.
Add Your Toppings to a Healthy breakfast bowl.
Once you’ve chosen your base, you can add any toppings you wish. The brilliance of a weight loss breakfast bowl is its versatility. You can mix and match toppings according to your taste and nutritional needs. Here are some ideas:
- Nuts and Seeds: Almonds, walnuts, chia seeds, and flaxseeds are excellent sources of healthy fats, proteins, and Omega-3 fatty acids. They add crunch and flavour to your bowl.
- Dried Fruits: Dried fruits like raisins, goji berries, or apricots bring natural sweetness and a variety of vitamins and antioxidants. They’re great for boosting your immune system.
- Fresh Fruits: Fresh fruits like berries (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries), sliced bananas, or diced apples add natural sweetness, vitamins, and fibre without too many calories. They’re perfect for a fresh, nutritious start to your day.
- Natural Sweeteners: If you prefer a bit of additional sweetness, consider drizzling honey, maple syrup, or agave nectar. These are natural sweeteners and are healthier alternatives to refined sugar.
- Coconut Flakes or Cocoa Nibs: For a bit of indulgence without the guilt, sprinkle some coconut flakes or cocoa nibs on top. They add a unique flavour and texture to your bowl.

Healthy Breakfast Bowl, Health Benefits
It’s not just a delicious start to your morning. Rich in antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, and macronutrients (e.g., protein and healthy fats), it’s one of the healthiest breakfast options. Here are a few health benefits you can experience:
- Walnuts: Known for their high Omega-3 fatty acids, walnuts are beneficial for brain health and contain anti-inflammatory properties. They support good heart health and may even reduce the risk of certain cancers.
- Raisins: These dried fruits are packed with energy, rich in fibre, vitamins, and minerals. They promote good oral health and aid in digestion, while their natural sweetness adds flavour without the need for added sugars.
- Cranberries: These small, tart berries are a powerhouse of antioxidants, which help fight inflammation and boost the immune system. They’re also known for their urinary tract health benefits and can improve cardiovascular health.
- Dried Apricots: Rich in vitamins A and C, dried apricots are excellent for skin and eye health. They are also a good source of fibre, aiding in digestion, and contain iron, which is beneficial for maintaining healthy blood cells.
Healthy breakfast bowls filled with nuts and dried fruit
Ingredients
- 6 tablespoons of porridge oats
- 2 oranges
- Slightly less than half of a 200ml tub of 0% fat Greek-style yoghurt
- One 60g container containing a mix of raisins, nuts, goji berries, and seeds
Method
- Start by placing the oats in a non-stick pan. Add 400ml of water. Heat this mixture, stirring from time to time. Continue for about 4 minutes until it becomes thick.
- In the meantime, prepare the oranges. Remove the peel and white pith. Then, slice the oranges in half, cutting along the sides of the central stalk area to eliminate a tougher part of the membrane. Once done, chop the oranges into pieces.
- Transfer the cooked porridge into serving bowls. Add a dollop of yoghurt to each. Top with the chopped oranges and a generous sprinkle of the mixed fruits, nuts, and seeds.
