World Salt Awareness Week 2022
World Salt Awareness week is organised by the group ‘Action on Salt’ and has been running for the past 7 years.
Why is salt bad for you?
It has been proven by scientists that too much salt is harmful to our health. It raises blood pressure, which can lead to heart disease or a stroke. There are also links to stomach cancer and kidney disease with high salt intake.
Most of the salt we consume is already in the food we eat – only about 25% of the salt we consume is salt we have added ourselves.
Adults should eat no more than six grams of salt a day (about one teaspoon worth), according to the NHS.
