Nutritional value of nuts

Nutritional value of nuts, How many nuts can I eat per day?

At Walnut Tree Gifts, we love nuts – it’s all in the name! Nuts are a nutritious and delicious snack, that provided you are not allergic to them, are incredibly good for you. However, if you’ve ever overindulged, you’ll know – it’s not exactly pleasant! In total, doctors suggest eating around 30g a day (of all nut varieties). Believe it or not, it is possible to ingest too many proteins, vitamins and nutrients in one go, so I would heed their advice. How many of each type of nut do the doctors recommend eating per day? Let’s take a look at the nutritional value of nuts …

How many nuts can I eat per day?

Nutritional value of nuts, Almonds

Almonds pack a massive health punch per nut. They do contain quite a lot of fat but it’s the good kind, that lowers blood pressure and blood sugar levels. They do contain a fair amount of calories though, so the dietitians have recommended 20-30 almonds a day at most.

Nutritional value of nuts, Brazil nuts

Did you know that eating brazil nuts may prove effective in improving sleep? They’re also a great source of selenium, which by the way is great in the right dosage, but too much and it may cause your hair and nails to break more easily. Nobody wants brittle nails and hair, so keep to 1 or two brazil nuts a day. Hard task, but necessary.

Nutritional value of nuts, Cashews

Another very healthy nut, this one contains a lot of selenium which is excellent for pregnant women (who require a higher intake of this nutrient) and is good for our skin. However, even a small amount of cashews already takes us to 30g so if you’re choosing cashews today, only eat around 4 or 5, say dietitians. A word of caution to those looking to lose weight – these nuts will make you gain if you eat too many.

Nutritional value of nuts, Hazelnuts

Another one of the best sources of fibre out there, hazelnuts may be higher in calories but they’re certainly worth it. Not only because they’re healthy, but yummy too! Consume around 20 per day at most, if you want to avoid tummy pain.

Nutritional value of nuts, Peanuts

If you’re feeling peckish, peanuts are a really great option. They’re chock full of antioxidants, fibre, magnesium and more, and are especially known for helping to lower cholesterol. The nutritionists are much happier with this one, allowing for 40 per day or the equivalent of 30g.

Nutritional value of nuts, Walnuts

The nut for which our business is named! Arguably one of the best nuts for your body as well. They’re good for brain functioning, lowering risk of cancer and type 2 diabetes. If only we could eat them by the bucketload! However, too many and you’ll be bloated and very uncomfortable; keep to a maximum of ten whole walnuts or 20 halves per day.

Nutritional value of nuts, Pecans

Pecans are great for the digestive system, which can be a good or bad thing – you decide! The nutritionists recommend about 15 a day at most. Any more than that may lead to weight gain and possible increase in cholesterol levels.
