Krishna Janmashtami Gifts
Coming up very soon (August 30th) is the festival of Krishna Janmashtami, which celebrates the birth of Krishna. Krishna is the Hindu god of protection, compassion and love. The festivities begin at midnight, when Krishna was born and continue on for two days. Krishna Janmashtami Gifts are popular to give to family, friends and colleagues.
Krishna’s life is celebrated by acting out events from his history, singing and dancing. There is another very exciting tradition called Dahi Handi. Young men and boys make a human pyramid in the streets and attempt to break a pot filled with yoghurt. It is a fun competition between teams with prizes for the quickest team. A new world record for the tallest human pyramid was set by a team participating in Dahi Handi in 2012. A whopping 13.35 meters high – that’s 43 feet!

People with celebrate this festival with singing, dancing, praying and fireworks. Statues of Ganesha are placed in the home and a shrine to him is decorated with flowers and colourful decorations.
