Nutritional Value of Dried Fruit

Nutritional Value of Dried Fruit

Dried fruit is our longest serving and best-selling product at Walnut Tree. Last week in our blog we explored how many nuts one should be eating in a day. This week, we’re taking a look at the portion sizes recommended by doctors and nutritionists for the nutritional value of dried fruit.

Dried Apricots…Nutritional Value of Dried Fruit

This fruit is quite likely to be the first one you reach for from one of our fruit trays. The striking orange colour really makes them stand out and its hard to resist! They’re great for getting the digestive system moving but you need to proceed with caution here. Dried apricots are high in fructose, which can give you a real tummy ache. They are also packed with vitamins however, so you can eat 3 or 4 in a day without overdoing it.

Dates … Nutritional Value of Dried Fruit

Our Medjool dates are quite heavenly. One bite and you are transported into the blissful warmth of the Mediterranean. Dates are great for lots of things; enhancing gut health, boosting energy and are full of iron which boosts haemoglobin levels. While they’re incredibly high in nutrients, they’re also incredibly high in calories, so save them for a special treat. Between 2-4 dates in one day should keep you within the recommended limits.

Dried Mango … Nutritional Value of Dried Fruit

Dried mango is one of my personal favourites. It is loaded with antioxidants and nutrients such as selenium and iron, which is great for heart health. It is also a great source of dietary fibre so makes you feel full – the perfect snack for someone on a diet! As with any other dried fruit though, all in moderation – too much and you’ll gain unnecessary weight. It is recommended to keep to 40g of mango in one day (all the pieces are slightly different sizes which is why this fruit is measured in weight).

Dried Kiwi … Nutritional Value of Dried Fruit

This one is a real indulgent treat. Due to the sugar coating, it’s not necessarily the most healthy choice but it is delicious! While it does have a lot of calcium (good for bones), iron and is low in fat, the sugar does mean you should keep to 25-37g of dried kiwi.

Dried Cherries … Nutritional Value of Dried Fruit

Up to half a cup in a day for these beauties, say the nutritionists. They’re full of vitamin C and have been linked to arthritis relief. The high level of antioxidants help reduce inflammation in the body and cherries are one of the only known natural food sources of melatonin, which helps aid sleep.
